Goodbye Is Never Forever

Spirit Jerry, October 1, 1998 to October 3, 2008

Jerry, has it really been three years since the last moments when we rubbed your velvety ears and smelled your sweet puppy breath?

Time moves so fast, but your spirit, your lessons, your life, stay forever young and always a part of us. Even as you soar through the heavens, you continue to do your job, spreading the word about all that really matters in life . .

Like when you paid a visit to our friends who were visiting Bangor, Maine, a few weeks ago. They knew you from the PBS show, but never got the chance to meet you in pawson. One day they decided to grab a beer, and being dog people that they are, decided to head downtown to visit the Sea Dog Microbrewery.

As they roamed the bar to check out the dog mementos, something made them look up on a wall full of pictures. And who, out of the hundreds of photos tacked to the wall, barked out to them?

You! In this early Tripawds business card that we left in the bar, the day you hopped in on all threes and charmed all the bar flys, back in September, 2007.

Thank you for making our friends smile, and bringing back so many good memories of that momentous occasion when you reached the East Coast, despite all odds.

Fear not, brave Spirit Jerry. For today we will will not grieve, or cry.
We will cast aside our tears and celebrate your life!
Here’s to you, a very special pup who will go on living in the hearts of many,
from sea to shining sea.

  1. I am new here…but no less sad about your passing. Thank you Spirit Jerry!! I lost my best friend and the dog who saved my life…Jake the Snake… in 2008. He was a lab/shepherd mix and I will never forget him and the impact he had on my life.
I hope you are hanging out with him now. 😉

  2. A wonderful love story about an amazing dawg! Jerry is most definitely proudly smiling down at his mommy and daddy for continuing his legacy through Tripawds.

Jerry, you are truly an inspiration to many and you will continue to teach us about resilience, loyalty and living. You give us all the much needed hope, courage and strength during this unwanted journey with osteosarcoma. You are the definition of a hero! I hope you are having one big celebration pawty at Rainbow Bridge!

Jerry’s spirit will always be carried with the wind around you, until you all meet again….

    Hugs and chocolate kisses,
    Ellen & Charley

  4. Oh Jerry ~
You are such an inspiration to all! You inspired me when I reached out in fear and in devastation when my world came tumbling down with Indy’s diagnosis of osteosarcoma. I saw how brave you were as a tripawd and I knew it was the right thing to do – having Indy’s surgery…. You gave me hope and in turn my boy gave so many others hope as he beat the odds for 17 months! Your mommy and daddy were so sweet to write e-mails when I was not brave enough to write online…10 months later I started a blog and it was all because of you! It’s because of you that we all have comfort & so many friends to reach out to! !
You loved life and lived it to its fullest ~ you loved to be free on earth and now you are free in the heavens above with many of our beloved tripawd heroes. I love you Jerry!!
Let’s hear it for the most amazing tripawd warrior ever!!!
With much love from the Spirit of Indiana’s mom ~~Carol~~

  6. Beautiful. Jerry might not have been able to leave a permanent footprint in the wet sand, but he’s sure made a profound impact on countless pawrents who never got the opportunity to give him a head rub.

And I’m not crying. I just have something in my eye.

    Hugs to all.

  8. It is so amazing when you think of what one very special dawg, with two very special pawrents, has built. I am in awe of what this wonderful community has become…. all because of one JERRY G. DAWG. The month Jerry left this earth in 2008 was the very same month that Nova received her dreaded cancer diagnosis. Jerry and his story got us through some very dark times. Today Nova is among the living, thriving, and growing ranks of cancer-butt-kicking warriors on earth, continuing Jerry’s work.

  9. Crying as I watch the video. Thank you, Jerry, for being an inspiration. Without you, we wouldn’t have this website, and so many of us would be on this journey alone. Thank you for inspiring your pawrents to start this site so that we have a place to go.

Run fast and free, and say hi to the Chili Dawg for me.

    • …and keep watch over the ones who are now with you.

Jerry accepted what life dealt him and made the best of it. He looked so happy in all his photos, like he truly was living each day to the fullest. We can all learn a lot from him.

You’ve made the world a better place, Jerry, by giving hope to many people.

Run with the wind, sweet boy.
