Tripawd Tuesday: Meet Maurice “la Matraque”

On this first Tripawd Tuesday of 2014 we’d like to introduce you to Maurice “la Matraque.” This handsome Tripawd is from the great white north of New Brunswick, Canada. His mom Lisa recently shared his story with us:

maurice

His nick name is Maurice la matraque (stick that cop use) because his tail is always wagging and a real danger to anything near by ex: coffee cup etc….and, he is also known as Maurice the dog with a chicken leg. His one and only hind leg is known as the chicken leg.

He will be 7 years old this year. He was hit by a truck on August 29. He had his hind leg amputated on September 1, 2013. I was not ready to lose my Maurice. I lost my little Sandrine, on June 21, 2013 from old age and renal failure. She was 13 years old. My boyfriend lost his white labrador to old age and bowel rupture on May 5, 2013. We were not ready to lose another dog. After that, October 25, 2013, my dear old cat Cyrano, died from renal failure at 15.5 year old.

Maurice has recovered like a champion. The loss of his hind leg has not taken his happy sweet loving personality away. The accident happened when he was walking with my boyfriend. Maurice was on a leash and he saw a cat. He took off like a bullet and “boom.”

2013 was a difficult year BUT…I celebrate each day, the fact that my dog Maurice made it alive and well .He is even in charge of the squirrel patrol.

  1. Well done Maurice,

Our boy Buck has just had his third chemo blast, one more to go then when we can get his wheels sorted he will be like a rocket just like your boy, 85 kilos is a lot for Buck to manage on three.

    • I am so sorry to hear that your baby is sick with cancer. Only dog people understand how precious they are. They bring so much into our lives that it is hard to find the words to express our gratitude toward them. Dogs are brave souls and they move on quickly, unlike humans, they don’t feel sorry for themselves. I hope that he will get to his old self and bring you many years of happiness. I also hope for the very best outcome for Buck.

  2. MAURICE! Youareone proud and strong looking dude! A very, very good looking boy!

Lisa, I am soooooo sorry for all the sadness you and your boyfriend have had to endure. Our love for our animal families knows no limits…nor does our grief when we lose them. They are nestled in your hearts though, jist as you are still in their hearts. Nothing can ever break that connection. And they all knew how much you loved them.

Maurice is obviously doing great andmthat is wonderful news! I know every second with him is full of fun and love! He just “looks” like he’s full of mischief!!

Maurice, you are a verybrave boy and clearly you are not letting anything get in the way of liing life to the fullest!! Glad your mom shared your story with us today! You just make us smile!!

    Hugs to all!

    • Hello Salky and Happy Hannah,
You are right, Maurice is FULL of mischief. 🙂 I am so blessed to have my Maurice. He is such a good dog. I feel sorry for people who don’t know how dogs can enrich someones life for the better.Thank you for the kind thoughts.
      Lisa

PS-He has a friend, named Pixel. Pixel, a German Sheppard mix, is the wise, calm and collected one. He will turn 8 this year. Maurice is the mischievous one, who thinks after the facts.
